Jane Smallfield (President)
Jane is a marketing and public relations consultant specialising in the technology sector. She currently works as a senior consultant for Swaytech, an Auckland based technology marketing practice with a wide ranging portfolio of clients. Prior to this Jane was the Programme Manager for the HiGrowth Project a government funded ICT industry initiative to assist industry growth. She passionately believes in the importance of an innovative software industry in building New Zealand’s economic future and continues to assist the industry to develop a strong and effective voice locally and globally. She has been a member of the NZSA for more than five years and over that time has developed active connections with other industry groups across New Zealand. Jane is actively involved in running the annual NZ Hi-Tech Awards and is on the Steering Group for the development of a NZ Cloud Code of Practice.
Edwin Dando is Clarus' founder and CEO. He is a passionate Agile advocate with a strong background in Scrum. Edwin has been responsible for introducing Scrum and Agile to many organisations throughout New Zealand. Edwin has a strong understanding of project management, consulting and software development. He has a BSc in Computer Science and is a Professional Scrum Trainer with Scrum.org. As a highly motivated individual, Edwin has delivered notable business projects in his career. He passionately believes in sustainable business and advocates all businesses considering three bottom lines – profit, environmental and social.
Edwin sits on a number of committees including the Canterbury University Software Engineering Industry Advisory Panel
Wayne Hudson , formerly with Bell Gully, has his own firm Hudson Gavin Martin, which specialises in technology and intellectual property law. Wayne has practised law in the technology business sector for over 28 years and has advised many business owners and entrepreneurs on the commercialisation of their technology, the sale and acquisition of technology businesses, capital raising, research and development, protection of intellectual property, establishment of joint ventures, and corporate restructuring.
Wayne has been on the Executive Committee of the NZSA for nearly a decade and is the immediate past-President.
Martin Keyte specialises in Corporate Taxation and technology for PwC. He has a strong background and understanding of the business issues for software businesses and software development. Martin has over 19 years of experience working with businesses undergoing fundamental change – for example proposals for new business models; acquisitions; restructuring and growth strategies. In each situation he works directly with shareholders, directors and senior management of businesses of all sizes to assess the current business capabilities, optimising opportunities and minimising risk.
He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) with a BCom in Accounting and Finance. Martin is a committee member of the New Zealand Software Association and regularly participates in other industry groups including the Hi-Tech awards and NZICT.
Martin has a lovely family - wife, two sons and a new little girl (a puppy).
Paul Norrie has been involved with ICT ever since his plans for being a fighter pilot were upset. His background is in software engineering where he has a keen passion for best practices and professional development.
A graduate of the University of Canterbury, Paul is a co-founder of Ablaze Software specialising in mobile Supply Chain Management solutions. This continuing commercial experience has reinforced Paul’s passion for building NZ's software industry into something greater. Paul endeavours to encourage commercial partnering of technology companies, professional practices and closer industry-academia relationships
Terry Paddy is a Director of Cortexo Limited, a remote control and monitoring service company for the micro power industry in Europe. Terry strongly believes that networking, clusters, buzz marketing and industry associations are the stepping stones for small businesses to leverage knowledge locally, giving the ability to attack globally. Terry is Chairman of the Canterbury Software Cluster and a member of Chartered Secretaries NZ and the Institute of Directors.
Devendra Patel is CEO and Managing Director of Computer Fanatics Limited, P2P Limited, and Animal Health Plan Limited. He has been in the IT industry for well over 25 years and has developed software for the Pharmacy Industry in the past. He has a Masters Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the University of Auckland and has served as an academic staff member at the School of Engineering in the past. With his business partner, he is also the co-designer of the solid state ANZ Bonus Bonds Lottery random number generator. Currently his companies operate in the Veterinary and Hair/Beauty market and export software to Australia and Asia. These exports now account for over 80% of new business. Devendra has also been involved with the University of Auckland Business School providing financial and personal assistance with proof of concept projects for students. With new found experience in the area of exporting software, he believes that he can bring ideas to assist those within the NZSA membership who wish to tap into his experiences.
Owen Scott is Managing Director of Christchurch-based marketing strategy consultancy, Concentrate. Since 2004, Concentrate has assisted numerous technology-based companies accelerate their growth by successfully marketing their products, including: SLI Systems, WhisperGen, Tait Electronics, Eaton, InFact, AuCom Electronics, Insite Computers (part of the Renaissance Group) and Designline.
Concentrate was a finalist in the 2007 Hi-Tech Awards, the Canterbury Export Awards 2008, and the 2008 Champion Canterbury Awards. In 2008, Concentrate partnered with PricewaterhouseCoopers to conduct Market Measures, the first sales and marketing benchmarking study of the New Zealand technology sector.
